Last Friday 400 New York high school students gathered at Microsoft’s Times’ Square office for the NYC Computer Science Opportunity Fair. The 9th - 12th graders learned about some of the exciting work happening in New York’s tech community. Floored’s director of design Jake Zien and senior software engineer Neha Batra chatted with students about the work Floored does and showed off some of our latest Oculus scenes.

Floored was joined at the fair by a number of other New York tech companies, including Buzzfeed, Etsy, Kapitall and Yext as well as representatives from Brooklyn College, Columbia, Cornell, CUNY and NYU. The hands on section of the event was complemented by prominent speakers including David Karp (Tumblr) and Fred Wilson (Union Square Ventures).

The event was organized by TEALS (Technology Education And Literacy in Schools), an organization that places engineers as volunteer mentors high school classes. The program currently has 280 volunteers working with 3,300 students at 70 high schools. They’re actively looking for volunteers for the 2014-2015 school year - to find out more visit their website.
